Product sourcing brief
Stainless Steel Water Bottle Sourcing Brief
Define bottle construction, lid system, food-contact evidence, leak testing and packaging controls before comparing China supplier quotes.
Reviewed 2026-07-29. Buyer-side planning material, not a supplier endorsement or compliance determination.
Scope before search
Reusable stainless steel beverage bottles and their supplied lids, seals, coatings, decoration and retail packaging. Insulated and single-wall designs should be treated as separate configurations.
Fix the quote basis
Ask every supplier to quote the same controlled product configuration. Unknown fields should remain explicit questions.
- Nominal and brimful capacity
- Single-wall or vacuum-insulated construction
- Steel grade claimed for each food-contact part
- Lid material, seal material and replacement policy
- Internal and external coating or treatment
- Leak-test method and acceptance basis
- Decoration method and dishwasher claim
- Retail pack and master-carton protection
Turn failure modes into controls
The useful question is not whether a supplier says quality is good. It is how the final product will be defined, tested and released.
Leakage at lid or seal
Define fill level, orientation, duration and temperature for a repeatable leak test.
Vacuum performance variation
Set a time-and-temperature retention method for the final construction.
Odor, staining or coating damage
Identify every food-contact material and finish, then define cleaning and visual checks.
Transit dents and scuffs
Approve protective packing and test the packed configuration, not an unboxed sample.
Questions for the supplier
- Which legal entity manufactures the bottle body and which site assembles the lid?
- Which processes are performed in-house and which are subcontracted?
- What model and material scope do the supplied food-contact reports cover?
- How is leak testing performed during production and before packing?
- What changes require buyer approval after sample sign-off?
Evidence to request
- Material declarations tied to named components
- Product- and market-scoped food-contact documentation
- Approved leak and thermal test records
- Golden sample and decoration reference
- Packing specification and transit-test evidence
Map the operating model
Factory and trader labels do not answer who controls the critical process.
Search by process capability, not only by bottle keyword. Body forming, welding, vacuum processing, coating, lid molding and decoration may involve different sites.
Keep market-access questions open
- Identify the intended destination and responsible importer before selecting evidence.
- Check food-contact rules against every material that may contact contents.
- Treat coating, lid or seal changes as possible evidence-scope changes.
